new 14" cube

Postby cindre2000 » October 1st, 2007, 12:31 pm

So, I bought some glass and built myself a new nano (14"x14"x14"). The glass I bought was to thin, so I cannot drill the tank for an overflow and sump. I also got an icecap pendant on the way so I will have a 150w metal halide over the tank. Though I will say that the light I have on it right now looks much better than it did on the 3 gallon.

Oh, and the lantern basslet is very happy.

So, the Basslet is happy and acting boisterous. I have a Yasa Hashe goby&pistol shirmp in aquarium as well on hold for my mom's 120g.

I installed the Icecap Pendant and it looks good. However, the bulb in it right now is really really yellow. The tank was getting really hot; but I put in a 120mm computer fan and now it runs a bit cold (and I lose a lot of water).
Flow is provided by two aquaclear 30 powerheads along with two small hang on filters (100gph each).

The tank is currently holding s whole bunch of coral frags that are actually for my moms tank once they recover from being fragged:
Blue Acro, Red Favia, Green Frogspawn, Pink Pocillapora, 3 different Monti's, Teal Candycane, pink Stylophora, and an unknown coral

The ones for keeps are:
Porites, Maze brain, purple gorginian, potato chip coral (Pavona?), and star coral(siderastrea)?

My biggest issue is I want to create a Caribbean-esque biotope and I am still trying to figure out what to put in the tank.

No pics for now, sorry.

I need to find a camera to use...

But there is not a big difference, except for all the hair algae. I really want to wait till I get a new bulb, any day now.

Picture time!!!

So, my jawfish jumped :(

I am using a Iwasaki Par36 'blue' bulb. Color is much nicer than the old 6700K bulb even if the new bulb cost an arm and a leg. The amazing thing is the color came out perfect in the pictures I did not have to tweak them at all.

But back to the tank....

First picture is a full shot. Second picture is the upper left where all the porites are. As well as a baby fungia.

More pics..

First one is the sort of upper left, you cannot see the candy cane and maze brain, but you can see another porites, a different candy cane, and one of my monties.

Second one is my new clam (maxima), another one of the neon green candies, and a third type of candy I am trying to same. You can just make out a red montie that does not seem to want to grow.

Final pic shows a third montie and two frags of lettuce coral. However, I think I want to get ride of the rock that the lettuce coral are on...
