Sea Cucumber Dilemma

Postby Guest » May 12th, 2001, 2:58 am

I have had my Tiger Sea Cucumber for about 2 years and suddenly I have two. Both cucumbers are about the same size. I have been unable to locate information about the biology of sea cucumbers and I am very interested to find out how mine reproduced. Any ideas?

Hi, some sea cukes can reproduce asexually through fission- simply splitting and growing new parts. Nearly all echinoderms, except urchins, are well known for this unusual ability. I will try to find some references later! brittlestars! http://home.att.net/~ophiuroid

Thank you! I thought that might be the case, but couldn't find information to back it up.
