These are hotlinked (outside) images, and the problem isn't file size but dimensions being too big to fit on some screens (the system "crops" the images instead of making you scroll). Attachments have kb and dimensional limitations. There isn't any way to automatically reduce picture attributes when you upload.

you can do it through bbcodes. then the problem becomes getting people to use the bbcode. I have this same software and i love the fact it crops photos because i hate scrolling just because someone doesn't want to make one click on photobucket to resize.

Chris was kind enough to share with me the bbcode 8)

I've added it. It's a new button found above the post area (along with all the other bbcode buttons), called rimg . What it does is display your image in a 640x640 max frame, scaled proportionally. If you click on it, it will display the full image. You can use it instead of the img bbcode that you're used to.

Here's an example:

You find an image you want to link to..say at this web address:
http://www.thelasvegasadventurer.com/wp ... _bunny.jpg

You go to the post a reply box, look at the boxes at the top and click on the one that says Img, it pops up with these tags: [ img][/img] (I put a space in the first one so you'll see it).

You paste the web address of the picture you want to hotlink in between the middle set of braces:
[ img]http://www.thelasvegasadventurer.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/easter_bunny.jpg[/img]

which when posted looks like this:

How about making it so links people post open in a seperate page. This would prevent people from automatically being steared aways from RDO. Like when I click a sponsor link, or a link someone post in the thread it makes my RDO page flip to the sponsers web page. Instead opening it in a new window would keep people at RDO.

Ben if you're using a 3 button mouse, click with the middle button and it will open in a new tab.

The new software has prevented spambots entirely. We haven't had any bots that have spammed multiple forums. It can not stop, however, people who manually register and spam. We rely on members using "report this post" button to take care of these individual spam posts. I check the report log every morning.

Thanks Len. I was just teasing, given the only spam I'd seen for a week was in this thread. ;)

BTW, can you sort out the view your posts function? Even after pressing refresh about 10 times this morning, it still wouldn't display my posts...

We're still looking into it. It has to do with the start function (which seems to shut down after some duration of inactivity). Reloading the page should fix it. If a regular reload doesn't work, try Ctrl+F5 for a full refresh to see if that works.

Thanks Len. When you say a period of inactivity, do you mean board inactivity? That might explain it as I am often the first to log in after all of you have gone to sleep.
