I picked him up at a local pet shop here in NJ. I did end up giving him away to a friend. He was definitely a predator, and after losing 6 fish for no apparent reason after dark, I had to get him out of the tank. Since then all fish are still alive. The final blow was when I saw my pleco with no tail. It was completely severed and still alive. The pleco has since made a full recovery (amazingly).

I've kept other "crayfish" before, but this guy was really aggressive, above and beyond. This guy would really hunt!...and I tried to keep him full too.

My Pleco has since re-grew his tail. He's happy and healthy again!

I'm going to convert my 92 gal tank to a wuss tank as well, just due to time and money contraints. Guess I need to learn a whole new system and figure out what I need for this bad boy.

I just got "Freshwater Aquariums for Idiots"....wow I feel lame. Still leak testing my tank. Any thoughts if I need a canister filter or if I can get away with a hang on the back one for a 90 gal planted tank?

Not sure on stocking levels yet, as I barely know the different types of FW fish!! This is somewhat for my kids to "Oooo, Ahhhh" over, so I'd like something with some personality and activity level.

The canister filters do look nice, so maybe I'll grab one of those. Any thoughts on where else to get supplies online, or good freshwater setup info? I can't believe how much of an invalid I am outside of saltwater :).

Are you doing plants or just fish? http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ is a great resource for fresh, salt brankish and ponds.

Cool, thanks. I was planning to do both. I'd hate to have to run a MH though (I'm really sick of the power bills with that). Problem is, I'm putting this in my cube which is 30x30 footprint, so not the best for long T5 tubes.

For good stuff about planted tanks go to:
http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/
http://www.aquatic-eden.com/

You could explore LED lighting instead of the Mh, heck of a lot less power consumption :)

I have all the stuff sitting here, new lighting, driftwood, substrate, even a free plant someone sent me and I still can't decide which style of tank I want-the more casual "dutch" style or the more modern "amano" :x

A lot further than I am :). I was thinking LED when looking at doing a FOWLR, but perhaps it would make sense for the planted tank. Thanks for the links.
