Graphics problems with advaced aquarist

Postby cjdevito » April 16th, 2002, 1:01 pm

Sorry, Peter, this is the first I've heard of anyone having this difficulty -- and, from the screenshot, the first time I've ever seen a an error like this on any web page.

Since it happens to you only occasionally, I can be pretty sure it's not the code, which is static. The exact same HTML is called up each time you load the page. One of the platforms I test pages on is IE5, as well.

As far as highlighting text changing the background color, I'm not sure I follow you... if you highlight text on any web page, the background behind the text changes color. This is typified by the highlighted text in your image.

Does it to me too. I found if I scroll the page it fixes the problem for me. Really annoying though.

Since this happens on two completely different computers, I'm not sure you can claim it isn't the code. I see your point as well, and I'm just not sure. Its pretty weird. I've never seen an error like this before either. I'm going to update IE, and I expect that to fix it, I just haven't gotten around to it. As a programmer of windows applications, I'm inclined to believe its an explorer bug judging from the quality of code coming out of Redmond.

I didn't explain "not consistently" very well. I get it everytime I load up the page, but the particulars of the graphics flakiness changes as I scroll and from page to page. I can scroll down, scroll back up, and it "fixes" itself, usually...

As for the highlighting, let me see if I can explain this better too. Normally I get the text as black on white. If I highlight it, it changes to white on blue like normal. But, when I unhighlight the text, it turns to black on yellow. Just a little weird.

Exact explorer version at home is: 5.50.4522.1800

I'll get you the exact work version# too. Maybe it will help if this problem pops up for anyone else.

Very bizaare on the highlighting. Yeah, I am pretty sure on the code, since it's as vanilla-simple as they come. No scripting apart from the ads (and that's a very generic script used in many places, including on the discussion forum here), no java, no vb, nothing but straight HTML that doesn't get much more complicated then table structures.

Do let me know the browser version on your other machine and I'll see if I can't recreate it myself. And if you do upgrade and that solves the problem, pls let me know as well.

Has anyone else reported problems with the graphics on advanced aquarist? Here's a pic:

I get this on 2 different computers (home and work). Both are running Internet Explorer 5. I get this frequently but not consistently.

Also, if I highlight text, it will change background colors. This is not a big deal, but is a little annoying.

Peter

PS: Great magazine, I'm enjoying it!

Ok the explorer version at work is 5.00.2314.1003.

I'll let you know if its fixed when I get around to updating explorer. That might be a few days.

I had the same problem with Netscape 4.01 and IE 5. It comes and goes, so far no problem with the newest issue though.
