Monday I woke up with near total hearing loss in my right ear. Made an appt yesteday to see the doc, and by the time I got there, I had lost my voice as well. Turns out I have an inner ear infection. She didn't prescribe anything other then bed rest, dim lights and no reading. Today I woke up with vertigo and nausea. Gave then Doc a call, she prescribed VALIUM.

So here I am, no pain, up to two weeks bedrest and I have to take valium.

That blows, I had an ear infection a few years back and boy was I sick for a few days.

OTOH, at least your hearing loss turns out to be temporary (I assume and hope).

Did your doctor examine your ear? Did you have a hearing test?

You may have sudden sensorineural hearing loss. This is an otologic emergency. If you have this condition, it needs to be treated rapidly with high doses of prednisone and antiviral drugs. Don't mess around with this. Delay in treatment could make recovery of your hearing less likely.

The doctors in this town are **** idiots. They are on an anti-antibiotic jihad.

If we want to decrease antibiotic resistant bacteria, the first thing to do is ban using tank-cart quantities in feed lots.

I actually see her because she is not so antibiotic friendly She has helped me more so then all other DR's combined and I am glad she doesn't resort to them right off the bat. I like how Norway deals with it, and she kinda follows the same guidelines. But yah, cutting down the truckloads that are used in agriculture and aquaculture sure would be a HUGE first step for this planet.

She did examine my ear/throat and gave me a basic hearing test. I guess I'll get a referral to an ENT.

You don't need antibiotics. You need a hearing test. Don't delay.

holy crap find a new doc

I've had 2 tumors removed from my right ear due to frequent ear infections that were not treated aggressively enough, now I wear hearing aids and can touch my brain with my finger LOL

Good. Here's some reading while you are waiting for your hearing test. I hope you don't have this and I'm over-reacting.

FWIW I ran stadium sized sound systems, and was in high noise level environments 4 days a week for a decade. Been a decade since that, with very very minor hearing loss in my left ear (from doing sound and DJ'ing - headphone on right ear, left ear gets blasted by the booth monitor)

Doing sound, I wore hearing protection, but unlike smart DJ's, I never wore any while DJ'ing.

Last time I had an ear infection, they found I had diabetes.
