The idea behind this forum is that each month, we are going to arrange with our sponsors for a volume discount for reefs.org members on common aquarium products, so that you can stock up, and occasionally on special big ticket items, so you can get that ro/di or skimmer you otherwise might not be able to afford.

The idea is that each month we will announce what the item is, what the pricing is, and how many items need to be ordered for us to complete the powerbuy. You will be able to order as many as you want, so long as the powerbuy doesn't require us limiting the items, and when a powerbuy is completed, it doesn't mean you can't still order, it means that we have enough people to qualify for the volume purchase, and will actually be shipping the item. When no more orders can be taken, and the items are going to be shipped, we'll call that powerbuy closed.

Let me give an example, incase I wasn't clear (sometimes I'm not...) Let's say the August powerbuy is 400 watt Iwasaki bulbs from Inland Reef Aquaria for $49+shipping. That's the best price I can find anywhere by at least $9, but we'll need at least 12 bulbs ordered to complete the powerbuy. You will have 3 weeks to call Inland Reef Aquaria and order the bulbs. They will not charge your card or ship your order until such time as we have "completed" the powerbuy (remember what that means?). Once the powerbuy is "closed", Inland Reef Aquaria will take about a week to process all the orders (read get their discounted shipment of bulbs), and ship them to you. The whole thing should take about a month. Then we'll do another powerbuy.

We're also going to run poll's in here with a couple choices of what the next month's powerbuy will be. That way, hopefully, we can make the items things that you all want and need.

Right now I am working with Inland Reef Aquaria on powerbuys, but I do encourage any other sponsors interested in participating to PM me, or drop me an e-mail.

We're going to try this out, and it's going to be up to you, our users, to make it work. Help us pick items you want and need, we'll get the best prices for you, and you should take that opportunity to stock up. So without further delay, I'll announce the first reefs.org powerbuy (can you guess what it is?)...
