Julian Sprung- A question about mushroom population crashes

Postby ReefnSail » October 30th, 2002, 11:47 pm

It was not long after I read your article about mushrooms that mine, that I had recently complained about taking over nearly every surface of my LR, began to recede. This seemed gradual at first but over a week or so my whole mushroom population(four species and multiple clones- literally over most of the surface of LR in a 180gal reef) completely dissolved. It fouled my water, then fouled my skimmer which really fouled my water. Only by large frequent water changes and the providence that I had just bought another skimmer for a new tank I'm planning did I prevent a total loss.

I realize the possible causes for this are multitudinous, but is this a recognized event like Xenia crashes as had been mentioned on #reefs? Now that I have large expanses of nude LR, I kinda miss my shrooms but am hesitant to try to replace them.

TIA, sorry this was so long.
