Refugia Lighting

Postby chezted » March 1st, 2004, 10:25 am

I am getting back into the hobby after a accident,(Fire) got me out of it.I have a 50 gallon Tub connnected to a 20 gallon refugia. My question is what is the general thought on photoperiod for the refugia, should it be 24 hour or like I have done in the past, should it include a dark period. I dose Kalkwasser at night, so pH is not an issue,( it is running 8.4 on average, and is higher at night) My real concern is the health of the macro algea(caulerpa mexicana, halimeda, Penicillus).Thank you for any input. I keep mine on 24 hours, my Culerpa grows "like a weed".

What you can do is leave the light off when the main system's light is on and when the main system's light is off have the sump light turn on. By doing this your Ph. will be a little more stable. This is assuming you have caulerpa.
