Damsel breeding

Postby Sprattoo » March 18th, 2004, 11:04 pm

Can anyone post me a link to what yellow tail damsel eggs look like?
I believe I may have some... I don't think they are snail eggs.. although possible.. or perhaps hermits? I only have one camel type shrimp for aptasia control... so it's not him/ her. I would like to see a pic to try to ID before I whip out my camera.

I hadn't seen these before I put my two damsels together. If I run out of ideas I'll try to post a pic.

thanks in advance.

BTW
they are showing up in little bunches.. sort of whit-ish ¿strands? with little pink beads no more than 1/8" off the attached surface. at first glance I thought maybe some stray anemone, but they do look more like egg clusters. The favored spot is around the base of one of my leather corals, near the surface, but a new batch popped up on a rock today.

Sorry I don't have any pics or a link but from what you descibe these are snail eggs not Damsel. The eggs from your Damsel will normally be placed towards the base of corals or rock and will consist of round masses not strands and may consist of upwards of 1000 eggs.

Im thinking snail eggs too.. I have recently noticed a big BURST of baby snails in my overflow box.. about the size of pinheads.

I'll try to post a pic to make certain.

My yellow tails eggs looked just like clownfish eggs. Orangey. Shortly after they spawned, the female decided she hated the male and tried to kill him repeatedly...

I discovered what it was...
these hitchhikers
http://www.reefs.org/phpBB2/download.php?id=12154

must have sexually spawned and I found their babies all over the place. They actually almost became a pest proportion coral. When they are begining or first hooked on they look like little pink eggs. It actually the arm tips.

I pulled 3 off the base of one of my leathers. and one off another. I have left them on the few rocks, but they are sort of a pain.

When you touch them they feel and act quite like an anemone, soft and if you persist they will let go but the tentacle cling to you. The older ones definately resembled the big guys in the pic.

I have since ID 'd Snail eggs as little white specks with strands to hang on the glass/rock etc.
