Tank arived yesterday. It is a JBJ 12g Nano standard mini.

Cost after shipping (ebay special):

$109.98

Additions so far: Marineland Visa-Therm 75w thermo-conductive plastic heater, mounted in the bio-ball media chamber:

$34.99

and a standard affixed thermometer:

$1.99

I am refraining from filling the tank as per the rules, but I should have most of the materials in place and ready to fire up on the 1st.

I think I found a secret weapon now!

Aside from your everyday standard reef crystals salt:

$20.99

I have found a special batch of live sand, which is composed of a mixture of crushed argonite, standard live sand, and Black Volcanic sand from Punalu bay in Hawaii! The sand is beautiful, and fairly cheap:

$26.99 for 20 .lb bag!

Can't wait to get started :D

Ok, I added the live sand and filled the tank (and salted it).

Added 2 rocks today, each about 4 .lbs. Also added 2 blue-legs for the heck of it to get stuff rolling. They guy was nice, and threw in a small frag of a red gragorian for free.

Total cost: $54.83

Sorry about the update time, but I've been nursing a couple injuries and a bad headache.

I bought a chunk of Pompei liverock (great seafoam green algea!), added a 2nd figi rock from my standing 55g tank. I bought a couple small snails, a peppermint shrimp, and a feather-duster. Most recently I added a green button polyup frag and an emrald crab. I'll get total costs later.

Anyhow, here are the pics:

Ok, BIG update. I've added a large frag of young brown-button polyps. I re-arranged the tank for better athstetics, waterflow, and all-arround kismit.

I added a small chunk of what looks like old dead white coral, donated by a co-worker. It will be interesting to see how well it grows aqualine.

My most ambitious addition has been an electric scallop! Not to be confused with flame scallops, this orange scallop bio-luminices on it's inner lip. I realize I will need to target feed it and keep a close eye on water conditions to keep it alive. This will be a learning experience for me. So far, the guy looks happy as a clam 8)

I also discovered a nifty tool called a turbo-tube, which is kind of like a turkey baster, but with a small bulb and really long tube with a bend at the end and a jet tip. Great for target feeding, this device also works VERY well at blowing detreitus off of rocks gently.

Anyway, here are the photos, and I will post as other developments arise.
