Before I post my last picure I wanted to list the things done wrong & right.
Right
Lighting. Expensive but outstanding lighting for a 10. I would like to attempt the same tank with a 70 HQI MH.
Aquacultured animals. I really pleased that a fairly nice reef (IMO) can be accomplished using 100% aquacultured animals.
Autotopoff. I think this provided a lot of stability for the tank.
Limewater + Water changes. I think this had a lot to do with the growth rate. The growth wasn't beyond normal, but it was better than I expected in a nano.
Wrong
I got distracted for just 15 minutes during a waterchange. Waterchanges are a critical maintenance time and distractions need to be completely avoided. That limewater overdose that occurred while the water level was low set back the coral growth at least 2 months. I learned to disable to autotopoff during water changes.
Blue Ricordea. I don't know why they didn't like the tank. I would have lost them had I not pulled them out and placed them in my Lagoon.
Bryopsis. This particular algae needs to be avoided in a nano because large herbivores are not an option.
Macro Algae. The algae I tried was out of control almost all the time. If I missed a weekly trim it started killing corals. An attached algae scrubber would be sooo much better.
Rock stacked too high. It's hard to tell from my updates but all of the M. digitata actually grew right up to the top of the tank and had to be trimmed all the time. Had the rock stack been 3 or 4" lower I would, by now, some really impressive colony structures. Instead i have a jumble of SPS at the top that is without much form.
Here's the final pic.
