Mount lighting

Postby Agfahy » April 10th, 2005, 11:39 am

Postion the lights in the pattern you want. In my case it was an X pattern.
First screw the stand off pieces into place.
Next screw the bottom bulb into place(end caps and clips).
Then screw the top bulb encap and clip to the stand off. Make sure to cover your screw hole in the stand off block (hides hole).
Your done.
Lastly, feed wiring through fan exhaust hole.

Fan mount

Postby Agfahy » April 10th, 2005, 11:42 am

Map out where you want your fans to go.
Use a hole saw, in my case 2 1/4 inch, to drill holes for fan intake and exhaust. You are trying to create a wind tunnel effect. This keeps your lights cool and water temp down.
Next, mount fans to canopy with wood screws.

Building rock formations

Postby Agfahy » April 16th, 2005, 7:57 am

Your gonna need some underwater epoxy.
Try the one in the picture called Hold Fast by Marineland. Dries in about 30-60 minutes. Great for bonding coral, rock and varies other underwater applications.
The one drawback to this is that it drys white and won't go away until algae grows on top of it.
Another great epoxy is Reef Construct by Aqua Medic. This dries to a coraline looking pink.
1) Prefit the rock before you mix up the epoxy because it starts to harden in about 7 minutes. Have a good idea of what you want to accomplish with the epoxy becasue it isn't cheap!
2) Grab the tools you'll need.
Clamps- I don't recommend using a $10 quick grip like myslef. Try something cheaper.
Zip ties- these are great for joining rocks together. Zip tight untill the epoxy dries and then cut loose with a pair of snips.
Pieces of acrylic- these will be used to position the rocks to height. Think of them as stilts!
chisle- this can be used to brake off pieces of rock to make a better fit.

Good luck and have fun.

Clamp

Postby Agfahy » April 16th, 2005, 8:00 am

Pic of clamp used to hold rock into place.

Note****
When building rock formation. Piece pieces of rock together on the sandbed. This will give you larger and longer pieces that you can use to strech long distances.

Formations coming along.

This is a slow process so you can't get frustrated or to antsy. Be patient.
