Tank is a 14 gallon acrylic bought off ebay.

Tank is scratched to hell but with some Novus 1,2 and 3 I can make it look as good as new.

Stand

Postby Agfahy » March 6th, 2005, 12:27 pm

2/6/05
Stand is a made of oak.
Aquarium housing is 100% solid oak.
2 more viewing holes are going on the sides this weekend.
Groove in top and bottom pieces of trim will get stainless steel, that is plated chrome.
Everything will be stained black and polyurathaned in a glossy clear.

4x4x2 acrylic overflow.

Postby Agfahy » April 2nd, 2005, 9:11 am

4x4x2 overflow box made out of 1/4 acrylic.
Acrylic bonds best when the pieces are cut using a router. A table saw will leave teeth marks and not allow for a tight fit. This is a very common mistake.
Just used some Anchor Tight epoxy from Home Depot. Cures in 3-4 hours and looks great.

bulkhead and overflow access hole.

Postby Agfahy » April 2nd, 2005, 9:13 am

This shows the over flow cut out hole and bulkhead fitting installed.
Again, use a router to cut acrylic. I used a series of straight edges to make the access holes.
The bulkhead hole was cut with a hole saw.

Over flow box install onto tank

Postby Agfahy » April 2nd, 2005, 9:15 am

Here I install the box with epoxy. The drill press vice ontop of the box is mearly a weight to ensure a tight bond to the tank.

Return line

Postby Agfahy » April 2nd, 2005, 9:19 am

I cut a hole in the top of the tank and fit in a piece od 5/8 tubing hooked to a T-fitting so I can create a turbulant current. The pump is a 800 Quiet One rated at 200 GPH.

Canopy is done.

Postby Agfahy » April 8th, 2005, 5:54 pm

Canopy is stained with 4 coats of Minwax Ebony stain and has 3 coats of clear satin polyurathane. The only think left is to install the chrome inlay.
There is a fan in the rear to keep air circulating.

Installing 2x65 PC retro kit

Postby Agfahy » April 10th, 2005, 11:29 am

First off, I grabbed a piece of misc. reflector laying around and cut it to the size I needed. The ran some screws into the top to hold it in place.

Getting clips off exsisting reflector.

Postby Agfahy » April 10th, 2005, 11:32 am

The only clips I had around were on another reflector so I needed to get them off.
Put a 1/8 inch drill bit in a drill and drill through the rivet in the center of the clip. This will punch out the back side of the rivet so you can remove the clip.
Mount clip with screw.

Bulb stand offs.

Postby Agfahy » April 10th, 2005, 11:36 am

Grab 2 pieces of wood 3/4 inch thick.
Firdt drill a 5/32 hole in the center of each piece.
Next drill a 5/16 hole. This will allow the head of the screw to recess into the wood.
