Well, I guess if I don’t post now it’ll never happen. My tank is actually my husband’s tank. He’s been wanting one for a while now so I said this would be a good way to do it. Thus, this will be a co-production :D

The tank is a 16 gallon Allglass bowfront: Petsmart $99.00

Skimmer is a Remora: Marine Depot $163.00

12 Lbs live rock from Fish Etc (LFS) $83.00

Sand: Fish Etc (LFS) $10.00

Grounding probe: Marine Depot $10.00

Powerstrip: Wal-Mart $5.00

Heater: Fish Etc (LFS) $35.00

Maxi-jet 400 powerhead: Marine Depot $12.00

We added the water already and it has been going for about a week now. Everything seems to be going ok no algae or any problems. I plan on testing parameters tonight and maybe adding some clean-up critters in a week (we’ll see). I want to do this right and not be too hasty. I added some sand from my 65 gallon to seed the tank with more bacteria.

Ok so I tested the tank yesterday and things are looking pretty good, the phosphates are too high though. So, I added a small pouch of phosban to the outflow area of the Remora. Maximum exposure baby! Here are the specs:

Temp 79.8 F
Salinity 1.024
PH 8.0
Alkalinity 300ppm
Nitrite 0
Nitrate .15
Ammonia 0
Calcium 500ppm
Phosphate 1.0!

If I can get my GD web site up I’ll post pics. I don’t have any photo programs so I can’t shrink the file sizes enough to post here.

P.S. I'd like to give a shout out to my hommie Podman for giving me the low down on picture shrinking using Paint on Windows. Yer da bomb man 8)

Nothing new going on. All's stable with no sign of algae or any other problems. I'm growing out a few zoe frags for the tank in my 65 main display. I'm in no hurry to add any life at this point. The tank is only what, three weeks old? Zach and I are still undecided on the fish we're going to add, so we have time :D

I added a small sand-sifting star to the tank. Woo-hoo I'm living large now! I'm going to leave it fallow for two more weeks before adding any fish. I want to make sure any ich that came in on the live rock is dead

Ok, I added my black and white saddlebacks to the tank along with a few xinias and a few blue and green striped mushrooms. The saddlebacks do grow to about 4-5", but they were stressed out in the main display. They don't do well with disturbanses or other fish. So, I figured that this was better then having them constantly stressed out and sick. They are quite happy in their new home I'm glad to say. As soon as my sis returns the Coralite compact she borrowed I'll be able to add my zoe frags. Still havn't put in the backing so you can still see some of the wires in back. Just don't have enough time right now. I did move the heater and powerhead a little so you can't see them as well though.

I figure I'll add a black background to hind the few black wires that are left. I had a little outbreak of brown algae after I added the clowns, but it was only the type that grows on the glass, so I'm not worried.

I'll post pics in a bit. I have to get ready for work, so no more for now :D

Ok, I added the light my sis borrowed (after buying new legs for it), along with a black background, and my zoe frags. I'l try to remember to take a pic tommarow for posting.

The tank is doing really well. The circulation is awsom and the little algae film that there is on the glass is starting to slow down. I'm very happy with the stability so far. I was rather worried that I'd have trouble, seeing as this is my first nano tank.

The clowns are happy and beautiful. They really appriciate not having anyone else in the tank.

I wonder if there is a safe paint I could use to to blacken the powerheads with?

There is a bit more algae in the tank then I would like right now. I'm probibly feeding a little more then I shouild. It dousn't help that Zack will feed the fish and not tell me. They get double fed some days because of this. I need to do a water change on both my tanks but it's just not going to happen till finals are over. This is the reason why I have just not been responding much lately. I'm so tired I feel like zombie :(

I added 11 astrea snails tonight to help with the algae. Once they mow it down i'll move a few to my main display. Not much to report other wise.

Well, the astrea snails have done an amazing job on the tank. One of the little devils even crawled into the skimmer and cleaned it out! The B & W clowns are doing well as are all of the corals. I'll post some pictures later.

Well I've made a few chnges to the system. I've had such a gret time with this little tank (and been so pleased by how easy it is!) that I decided to move my fave corals into it and turn my 65 into a predator tank (Lionfish, puffers, and eels oh my!). Needless to say my little tank is a bit more packed then before, but it's a work in progress. I'm going to order an overflow box to fit over the Maxi jet to the Remora. It should make it look a bit better and get rid of that darn film  I moved everything around and in last night. Everything is doing ok so far. I'll probibly pick up a cleaner shrimp today to help out with scavenging and tending to the clowns. The clowns are really obssessed with the Flowerpot coral (yeh I know their hard but it was free :D ). I also have flame scallop in there. I've had it for a year now; so far so good  I'll write more later; I have to go to work. Just had to get my pics in last minute

Alright...all the corals are doing very well. No chemical warfare seems to be going on and all have adjusted to the move nicely. The flame scallop hasn't moved from his cave, which is good. It took two months of moving around in my 65 before it was happy last time. I'm pleased with the results. Now I just need to work on getting the coraline algae to cover everything :)

Sorry for the long hiatus (yeah I probably spelled that wrong:)). I've been so busy with my two jobs and school that I could barely wipe my @$$. Anyway, everything is doing well. My nitrates are a little high, but nothing a water change won't cure. The corals and fish are happy. My frogspawn is a little too happy though. The larger one has been playing divide and conquer:) It is working on nine heads now and it only had four in July 8O It's trying to take over the tank! The littler bunch is going nut as well. As you can see, the mushrooms and green star polyps are not happy about its expansion. Everything is growing too big too fast. I've already had to rip out a bunch of xenia and move everything as far apart from one another as possible:? I'm having to sell my 65 gallon reef tank so, I can't move any frags out. Bummer. So, I've decided that after the contest is over I will be moving everything into a 30 gallon cube. That outa hold out for a while :D
