1 week update

Postby Breaker4show » April 17th, 2005, 12:23 pm

Today is day 7 since I put liverock and livesand! I ordered my lights and they should be here next week. I put the tank on the base and put the canopy on.I am waiting to install the fan because I am wiring it in with the lights so it will on be on when the lights come on. I finally found a liverock arrangement that I like. I also added a AquaClear 1000 powerhead to disturb the surface! It is still getting film at parts on the top so I think I am going to buy the surface skimmer I cant find another way to fix it! I tested my water and suprisingly all I had was nitrates. It has only been setup for a week with no algae break outs and I have no ammonia, no nitrites, but my nitrates are rising so does that mean that my tank is almost done cycling? If so, I am going to get snails next week and let them stay in the tank for about a month to make sure the water is stable enough for corals!Temp is stable at 76.5 and salinity is at 1.023!
Here are the pics :

FINALLY! Got my lights in and setup. Its 2X32 watt retro with 50/50 bulbs. I also added a decorative wooden piece to the front. This tank is turning out alot better than I expected!Only probem I have so far is the fan from radioshack Hummss! Luckily It is only on when the lights are on (12-10. I am happy because after running for over an hour, the temp is staying at 76.5 which is lower than when the lights werent on there! Here are some pics:

today turned out awesome. since I setup my tank, I have wanted a small fish. my preference was a True Percula Clown but after alot of advice, I found that fish better suited for a larger tank. for the past couple weeks since my tank cycled, I have been looking for a suitable fish for my tank. I really wanted a yellow watchman goby but everyone said they get them in every couple months or so . . . so I was going to wait for it. but today when I was at a LFS I found an awesome fish and I knew it was suited for my tank. It was a Orange Spot Watchman Goby. I am not sure if it is an Orange Spot Watchman Goby or a Orange Spot Goby because I never heard of a Orange Spot Watchman Goby before. They had 2 Orange Spot Gobies and 1 Orange Spot Watchman Goby and I thought the watchman looked the cutest. I bought frozen mysis, because they have been feeding it frozen brine and frozen mysis since they owned it. here are a few bad pics. Better ones to come soon !

I am going to do some more research on it tonight to make sure I am feeding it correctly!

Thanks,
Nick

BTW this is going to be the only fish in the tank!and to add to the pricelist, It was $24!

this last week was awesome. this little tank is filling up sooo fast. my dad and I are trying to reset up his 20 long.im trying to slow down on purchases of corals so0o it maybe a bit slower the next couple of weeks. this week I bought alot.

first is my pistol shrimp for my orange spotted goby. ( not a good picture but he keeps hiding except when I am sleeping so this is my best shot in his bag ) $24.00

Image

my girlfriend wanted this Devils Hand and it was small soo . . . $10

Image

I found a nice rock with three clumps of zoos that have nice color! two clumps have purple skirts, green middles, and orange centers! the other clump is backwards, green skirts, purple middles, and orange centers! $20

Image

Image

my dad thought my tank was lacking movement so I bought a small rock with pulsing xenia and GSP! if they start growing too much they are on a small rock so I can lay it in the sand so it wont spread to other rocks! $5

Image

yesterday I saw blue f. ricordea in a LFS and they looked great !I bought 2, but to my suprise, one was green and one was blue, and the green one had two mouths and seems to be splitting.$10 each so $20

Sadly . . .this tank is now gone! during hurricane katrina and rita, the tank was trashed! We had no electricity for 1 month and no way to get into the city! I am from new orleans, louisiana in case anyone is wondering! Please judge my last pictures as my final pictures, because those are the last ones that i have taken of the tank!I would really still like to be considered in the judging! This tank took alot of hard work and I am my dad and I are very proud of it! Thanks for taking your time to look!

Thanks,
Nick
