Visited a lfs (Pet Town) during lunch today and as an impulse buy I bought a baby clown which will be the only fish I plan on having in the tank. $13.00

A quick update on the tank, I tested the water and all is well nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate tested almost zero and calcium is a bit low at 340. I just started to feed the tank phytoplx since there isn’t much food in the tank for the pods. I’ll stop dosing the phytoplx once the clown starts eating. The green clove started as a frag of two has since sprouted 3 baby polyps. I recently found a hitchhiker GSP which is also showing growth. I’ve also just added some macro to the main tank itself instead of putting it in to the sump. I’ll try to remember to bring the camera to post updated pictures by the end of the week.

just tested the water

SG - 1.025

Nitrate - .1 ppm just about zero
Nitrite - .25 ppm just about zero
Ammonia- 0 ppm
Phosphate 10ppm
PH - 8.1
Calcium - 400 ppm
Alkalinity - 9

I'v also just did a water change using water from my main tank, I'm getting a bit of an oil slick on the surface but I skimmed all of it out during the water change. Sooo all and all everything is doing great.

Well got back after 4th of July and my clown and cleaner shrimp died. Based on the timer, the office electricity was probably turned off for some type of maintenance for who knows how long. The water looks a little murky but other then being super stressed the corals look like they will make it. I did a 50% water change using water from my main tank and plan on doing a 30% every other day until the end of the week. I’m not going to add any more livestock until I get back from my 2-week vacation. I’m still contemplating weather I should teach a co-worker to care for the tank while I’m away or just take it home and have a friend who knows reef to care for it. The tank has been very low maintenance as far so without any fish in the tank all that needs to be done in the two week would be freshwater top off. But if I do decide on leaving the tank in the office I will more then lightly invest in a battery power backup for the return pump. The pump is only 5watt or so, so a battery backup should last quite a long time.

OK, just found out why nemo and shrimppy didn’t make it :( the office was sprayed for bugs over 4th July weekend. I’m going to run carbon in the tank for the next two weeks to get anything else that is still in the tank. I can't believe they didn’t send me an email before the sprayed the place.. !! !! Image

Looks like they will be sprying parts of the office for ants again. I will also be taking a two weeks vacation next month so I have decided to take the nano home until I get back from vacation. Relocating this thing shouldn't be hard, there is only about a gallon of water. The plan is to bag all the corals and put all of the water in a container and just take it home and set in backup in my bedroom. The entire process shouldn't take more then two hours so the tank shouldn't have to recycle or anything. I'm also planning on removing the mushroom and adding in another larger acan lord frag and more zoos.

well I'm back from my two week vacation in France to a pretty unhealthy nano. I have moved all of the corals to my main tank until I can restart again. All of the corals except for the mushroom looks like they are going to make it. I'm guessing it’s against the rules to restart so I'll bid goodbye and thank reefs.org for putting this contest together. I will still put the tank back together soon and will post pictures on reefs.org when I do.

Ohh and moral of the story or what I have learned from this contest is very small tank need lots of care and has a very small margin for error. It needs almost daily inspection, top off, and testing.

and just for the hell of it here is a pic I took while on vacation
