Yeah, the 1" standpipe does limit your flowrate. I suspect that it could handle an Iwaki 70RLT but no more than that. BTW, the new Iwaki 70RLT is terrific. It's quieter and more efficient that the model it replaces. Highly recommended!

Good thinking on the redundancy of pumps too.

Wow, I didn't know there was a new 70RLT! Quiet is a big must for me. Does Iwaki have a new 55RLT too?

No. AFAIK, they only updated the 70 & 100 RLT. The new models are easily distinguished by their blue motor and black impeller casing. IMO, they are the two best aquarium pumps on the market today as far as build quality, reliability and efficiency.

It's about time you started putting that thing together. My son grew 3 inches since you started this project :P :P

If you decide you need an Iwaki 100, let me know. I tried to use two 100's on my 300G, but the drains couldn't handle that much flow. So I have an extra that was only in use for a day. I'll make you a good deal ;)

Len, great looking tank... you did a great job with the return.... as soon as i saw the setup I wondered if it was actuated.... :D great minds think alike...

what is the website for those vortech jobbers. I love my tunzes. I have had them for 5 years with no maint. the battery backup looks cool...

do you have two overflows? what is the gallonage for the tank?

and i can't even wait to hear about you lighting!!!!!????
