It is a male of Cirrhilabrus marjorie, just 80mm long, from Fiji.

It was described by Allen, Randalll & Carlson, 2003. Endemic to Fiji.

The first import to Japan. I got a pair of the species at the same time.

Paracheilinus attenuatus, male 70mm (below) and Cirrhilabrus lunatus, male 60mm (above).

Attenuate Flasher Wrasse came from Kenya (rare) and the Lunate Fairy Wrasse was collected in Cebu or northern Sulawesi (rather rare).

I visited Kagoshima Public Aquarium that hols many huge aquaria. Kagoshima is located in the southern Kyuhsu.

This is a male of Pseudanthias rubrizonatus, 12cm long. It is fairly vommon in the sea of kagoshima and the male will often display like this.

Many males and females were there in a very large, dimly lit tank.

Today I got a pair of Cirrhilabrus species from Tonga, often called "Tonga Flame Wrasse". The male is about 75mm, and female some 50mm.

The first spine on dorsal fin is very conspicuous in male form.

It is an undescribed species that occurs also in Fiji; it will reach 100mm.

This is Chaetodon melannotus, 15mm long at the depth of some 30 cm.

I use FishDoc2007, too. It wiil be used in some Japanese webs.

Dr. Tanaka,

Do you have any native Cirrhilabrus to Japan like katoi or temmincki?

No. I have never seen any endemic specie of Japan; C. katoi or C. lanceolatus.

C. temminckii is a wide-ranging species in the West Pacific and is sometimes caught in southern Japan for sale.

Heniochus acuminatus, adult pair at the depth of some 40 cm in the harbor near the wall. They are some 16-18 cm long and perhaps they survived cooler waters here in winter.

a gigantic nudibranch ?

Postby Hiroyuki Tanaka » July 8th, 2007, 10:18 pm

I saw three individuals of an unknown animal, perhaps a nudibranch but I cannot find it in any literature. They were slowly swimming near the surface in the yacht harbor.

One of them was some 40 cm long. I would greatly appreciate whoever can tell its name.
