Hey, X, did you ever hear back from Sanjay about those Chinese bulbs? :)

no, not yet. he must be busy..or lost interest. i sent him an email and i haven't heard back from him. :?

meanwhile, the xm bulb on the 30 cube seems to be sparking some significant growth on a birds nest frag we purchased not too long ago. the only thing i can compare it to is my tank. i'm starting to think they are putting out alot of light, but maybe not effective light.
do you think it's possible a bulb can put out enough light to bleach a coral, but not enough PAR to feed it?

You should start a thread asking this question. :D I'm not sure how that works, really. But I don't see why that's not possible.

One thing that I would be weary about the china bulbs is QC on them. Some factors to consider as well are the variation from bulb to bulb (PAR, wattage, kelvin temp.) and the longevity of it (which Sanjay probably wouldn't test, anyways). ;)

Finally got an RO/DI unit, huh? Next, find you a decent meter to check the purity of the water coming out of it. They don't cost much.

Nice pics of the new corals, btw. :)
Good livestock is getting harder to find here locally...at least atypical stuff. Looks like you've got a good source. Local or mail order?

Been away for awhile...time to check how everyone is doing. Gonna post some updated pics of my tank...soon.

Hey Doug,

Thanks for the reply to my post (Please help..confused Aussie). Have taken on board your comments. Yours looks great. I don't know where you llive but how do you keep your tank cool. Here in Oz we have pretty hot summers, upwrads of 38-40 degree Celsius. I have noticed that even now 2 months out from summer my tank is sitting at about degree Celsius. Looked at a Chiller but with 3 kids the wife is not to happy about forking out $500 aussie for a unit. Love your rock, do you just stack it up or bond it together somehow? Sorry for the dumb questions.

Cheers

i use 2 fans, one blowing across halides, and one blowing across the sump. both are 12" fans. this makes my evaporation 6 gallons per day. also, i run a window air conditioner aroud the clock in that room during the summer months.

the towers are drilled straight through, and a 1/2" acrylic rod is through them, ending in the largest rock, which i call the "base" rock, and the top rock is also drilled halfway through, which we call the "cap".
ipurchased my acrylic rods from: http://www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php?pid=147&

thank you for the compliments.
