Yeah, talk about getting my appetite going. Sheesh!

I can't believe the difference in the stand, Andy, that's very nice. Just out of curiosity, how do you dispatch your prey? I like to cleave their brains in two before applying them to the boiling water.

Sm, I did some questioning at our local Oceanographic Research Institute a few years back and was told that the most humane way is to put them in tap water for 5-10 minutes. Dropping them live into boiling water has the effect of getting them to tense up their tails and makes them tough.
This week I'm going to tell the police your back garden is full of dead nuns and I'll do it in a weird, spooky voice so they have to believe me. All that new decking will have to come up.

I heard that. Freshwater will kill them. I had crab over the weekend, and they suggested I stick him in the freezer for 5-10 minutes. This will comatose them for a minute so I can pull off its legs to feed my eel.

Lookin pretty good though. I wouldn't mind having Lobster on tap

I have 6 crayfish that have now taken up permanent residence in the tank. 4 of them are females, and they have all come into berry (carrying eggs) at the same time. They are using their back feet to release the eggs into the water and my sump is now filled with orange eggs. Does anyone have any info on what to expect going forward, or should I siphon the eggs out? I am intending on putting at least one in the sump of my main tank so that the larvae and eggs can serve as a food source for my corals and fish- also, it is a mature, large system and if any juviniles actually have a survival chance, it will be in there.

I hope to take some more pics this weekend and will post then.

Some updated pics below. I have eaten the inhabitants with some fava beans and a nice chianti  and am back on a semi-normal track now. Some substrate in the display and some LR as well. Since then, I have started my diatom bloom and pics currently would be worthless. The detail in my unusual sump design is visible below.

What are you going to show off in this wonderful display? Please tell me it will be some pets you are not planning on eating? Will you be able to go out and catch a fish or two yourself?

I really wish I lived near the ocean. That must be the ultimate of cool.

I plan on catching some lionfish for this tank- even crayfish wont eat them. I will also catch some coral banded, cleaner and dancing shrimps, there are plenty in the ocean off my place and they live with the crayfish.

As for a more hobby orientated tank, take a look at the link in my sig,I already have a 385GA reef tank. (It also shows how close to the ocean I am)

I betcha lionfish taste pretty good, they're a cod. It's funny, you keep saying "crayfish" and I keep thinking "crawdads" (the Louisiana kind). Either way, deelishus!

P.S. You see my "propaganda" thread in the Sump? 'Twould be nice to get your perspective.
