Marine Enterprise Ammonia Test Kit

Information on how to use the ME ammonia test kit.

The Marine Enterprises Computer Analyzed Color System was developed with the aid of a special computer with an optical scanner. The computer actually analyzes the exact color it "sees" and provides the neccessay data for the exact duplication of that color. The proper pigments are then mixed and de posited on a special paper. Each of the five colors is an individual color not an additive color like those of other offset printed color charts. This system was developed over a period of three years to give you the best possible standards for color comparsion.

Some Important Facts About Ammonia

Fish excrete ammonia both through their gills and through the elimination of urine. This concentration of ammonia (NH3 and NH4) can be stressful and even toxic at very low levels. Ammonia levels in new, unconditioned systems may exceed potentially lethal levels of 1 part per million. In well established sys-tems, ammonia should not exceed .1 p.p.m. Partial water change can temporarily lower ammonia levels. Test daily in new aquariums. Test weekly in established aquariums and after adding new fish.

Directions

  1. Fill vial to line with water sample.
  2. Add 8 drops Reagent A (Rochelle Salts) and shake.
  3. Add 8 drops Reagent B (Nesslers' Reagent) and shake.
  4. Place vial on circle and match to closest color by looking down through the vial.
  5. Match color within first 2 minutes.
  6. Rinse vial thoroughly with tap water after each test. Keep this test kit out of reach of children.
